Politics is rife to cause divisions because of the different views we hold. With the general elections approaching local politicians are warming up to CUC students. For the last few days different two politicians have met students from the newly created Meru south constituency so as to woe them.

Already divisions are emerging on how to share the handouts from the politicians. A source privy to the matter informed us how the how the chairperson of the said group hoodwinked members present to give 50 shillings for payment of a non existent bill at Muringa. The group had been personally handed 300 shillings by a politician therefore denying the chairperson the opportunity to pinch a few shillings. When some members inquired from the management if there were any unpaid bills they were informed there were not  any.

Congress elects speaker

The congress on Wednesday elected it's speaker and the deputy speaker. In the special meeting presided by the CUSA Chairperson Omulloh Augo, Elvis Kipkoskey and Rosemary Ndila were elected speaker and deputy speaker respectively. That means the duo will now preside over all the meetings in the lower house of the students body for one academic year

Kipkoskey is the sports congress representative  while Ndila is the representative for  faculty of education and resource development. 

Photos leaked

Many people including the 2011 Miss Valentine Celestine Nyaboke have had their private photos dumped on the internet by unknown people. The photos are reportedly downloaded from their Facebook accounts and then uploaded to a fan page called haga za c.u.c .

When we talked to Miss Celestine she wondered how her photos had landed on the fan page and even wanted to the know the admin of the page. The person behind the page is a well kept secret as the administrators are not listed on the page. 

The fan page was set up by unknown people and has several photos most of them lifted from the internet mostly showing semi naked females. At exactly  5:39 PM yesterday an album was uploaded with photos of several CUC students. They even went ahead to use Miss Celestine's photo as the profile photo.

Meanwhile we would like to advice those whose photos are on the fan page without their consent to report the specific photos to Facebook for them to be withdrawn. You should also change your privacy settings in your Facebook accounts.

Welfare Director perfomance impressive

It is exactly six days since the new CUSA office was officially inaugurated but the scored card for Joyce Mukami looks impressive. In a short period of time she has been able to convince the catering department to buy brand new cutlery for the mess.

For a long time the mess has been literary been a mess without inadequate cutlery. It was not strange to see students salivating as they waited for their colleagues to finish using spoons for them also to use them.

Now with the acquisition of new cutlery things are a bit easier for the students. Mukami has also been seen approaching students to enquire   about issues affecting them. However she has a long way to turn the mess into an effective catering unit. Firstly she has to ask whoever in charge to tell the staff there to minimise their chit chat and also the quality of food is still wanting.

But that is not to say that we don't recognise her efforts. Kudos Ms Mukami.

For Elvis Kipkoskey and Deborah Kangai their dreams to leads did not go to the drain. The two who contested and lost in the posts of Director welfare and Organising Secretary respectively were elected to different positions in the Congress.  Kipkosekey is now the sports representative while Kangai will be the Hospitality and Environmental      faculty representative. Kangai had stepped down in favor of Miriam Wamaitha but surprisingly her name remained on the ballot papers and she managed to garner 115 votes.

Augo talks tough

The CUSA chairman yesterday  told the school administration that student leaders will be visiting their offices with students grievances. A tough talking Omulloh Augo was speaking during the inauguration ceremony to usher in the newly elected leaders. The ceremony was graced by the principal Professor  E.N Njoka , the deputy principal academics Professor Dorcas Isutsa and the dean of students Rev Micheni. Augo who had promised to start on how note at one time questioned why students had to request for academic trips when it was their right.

Augo also said that he hoped that the rumor about long holiday was a rumor because it was not logic for students to go on long holiday after every semester. He also expressed his disappointment on how the issue of transcripts had been handled. He narrated how he had to teach for two thousand because he did not have a transcript.

In registering his concern of how things are done in the university Augo questioned  the bureaucratic process.      He wondered why purchase of small items had to go through the procurement process. He however said he likes consensus and consultations and notified the principal that when he will be seeing them they will not be going there to quarrel but to air students grievances. 


The sudden black out did not deter the CUSA leader from driving his point home and  when power resumed chants of " Rudia" (Repeat) could be heard from the enthusiastic crowd. Earlier on the the Secretary General had set the pace with his highly charged speech . Peter Mburu in his opening remarks stressed that he was going to work for the students without fear of threats or intimidation. He highlighted to the principal how the office of the dean has become inefficient and reluctant in dealing with issues affecting the students. He accused the past office bearers of abusing the constitution by not adhering to it. He cited the incident where the past Chairman had failed to convene an SGM as the constitution stipulated. He also promised to make sure the current office bearers adhered to the constitution. He also declared that he had lost confidence in the procurement department. To facilitate easy communication Mburu proposed setting up of modern noticeboards at appropriate spots.

The climax of the event was a performance by Tiger power an acrobat who thrilled the crowd with his extraordinary antics.

A woman escaped death narrowly on Saturday when a car she was driving rammed into the iron sheets structure  around the proposed students center. Dennis Mureithi an eyewitness told us that the woman could have been a learner and that she had been given the car to drive from the procurement department before she lost control and hit the structure. This happens in the wake when students have complained about careless and fast driving on the newly completed "Ongata highway".

Today is Tuesday, It isn't Valentines day

So what is this fuss about Valentine's day?  Everywhere there is nothing except Valentines day. Come on, today is Tuesday. So people are blindly following this ancient tradition from the west that has evolved to what men single men and philanderers dread as Daily Nation put it today. A female friend of mine narrated how his boyfriend broke up with her yesterday but what cracked me was her confession she knew he will come back after Valentine.

I was tempted to find about this Valentine day and I pitied men. I googled and all I could find was some conflicting and obscure information.Even on PM live on NTV they discussed whether  Valentine has been commercialized. Ladies will say it has not been commercialized but I am sure may will agree that  it has been. For those men who have money and wish to blow money Valentine's day is an opportunity for you to do so and for women who  drove their men away because of nagging them about Valentines's day worry not. Because tomorrow they will come and beg you for forgiveness.

Some many posts on the social made gave different ways to evade valentine but an article in today's Daily Nation was very informative. Why spend a lot of money on a single day to show how much you love them when you can always show how you love them all days?

Chuka Decides

Chuka university college(CUC) on Friday,  Feb 10^th , 2012, went to the polls and elected a new Chuka university college students' association (CUSA) chairman in the closely contested elections that saw Omullo Augo Joseph garner 532 votes against his arch rival Kirimi James Chapati's 512 which were held for the better part of the day at the pavilion polling station.

After the announcement of the results by the presiding officer in charge of the one day polling, Dr. Waita, ululations and celebrations rented the air with comrades from all tribal divides standing together to congratulate one another. It was clear in the eyes of many scores of people that at last the change they were yearning for had come, and what remains to be seen is change itself. During his winning address, Augo continued to preach peace almost the students,"let us embrace one another because there are no enemies in politics." He went on to sing a song of victory dubbed 'mageuzi pap'.

In a quick rejoinder, his running mate, Wairimu Rosemary, together with the treasurer elect, Gideon Osamong joined hands in thanking their voters and went ahead to tell them that the prices of sukuma wiki among other short term implementable promises will be tackled with speed.

In other categories the winners were Joyce Rugendo who was elected the director of students' welfare, Miriam Wamaitha the organizing secretary, Peter Mburu the secretary general and Kelvin Munene went away with the director of academic affairs position.

With the beehive of activities at the polling station, the election process went ahead peacefully at a closer look by the security personnel, the media crew and the student's fraternity.

In another twist of events, police officers from Chuka police station disrupted students' celebrations by throwing teargas canisters in the air to scare them away. It was not clear who invited the officers and every security personnel based at the university denied any link with them. This uncalled for behavior by the uninvited guests shook cans of worms in students' stomachs as they shouted back after the police had gone that they were only exercising their democratic rights.

Police spoil party

Policemen from Chuka police station reportedly tear gassed  and chased celebrating students on Friday night. The students who were in celebratory mood had allegedly reportedly blocked the Meru- Nairobi highway before the police were called in to restore calm. The police chased the students to school and they reported threw canisters into the university compound prompting students in Kirinyaga house to run to safety.

However an announcement on the university noticeboard indicated that the area OCS had apologized over the incident especially continued pursuit of students to the university compound. The announcement signed by the incoming CUSA vice chairperson also states that it is motorists who informed the policemen of the commotion on the road and urged students to restrict their celebrations within the university  premises in order to maintain the cordial relationship that has existed between the community and the university.

Augo clinches top seat.

Omulloh Augo emerged victorious in yesterday's CUSA elections. Augo garnered 532 votes against Kirimi's 512 in the hotly contested elections. The tallying and counting exercise which was carried in the pavilion attracted a large number of students. From the beginning of tallying the race looked tough and the winner was unpredictable but towards the end it was clear Augo had taken the lead with 20 votes. The crowd which had been following the tallying exercise keenly broke in jubilation even before the official counting begun.

Augo who had all this long been away sneaked to the venue and was mobbed  by supporters and carried all the way to the polling center. The incoming Treasurer Gideon Osamong also made a dramatic entry . He arrived and stripped his shirt and even carried Mageuzi's chief campaigner on the shoulders. Rosemary Wairimu, Augo's running mate was also mobbed by the enthusiastic crowd. In his maiden speech Augo said in politics there are no enemies but opponents and therefore all should embrace unity because we share a lot.

He also reiterated that he was going represent students in the students council and not going to oppose the University administration. During the campaigns supporters of his opponent had tried to paint him as a radical which he has always vehemently denied. Augo also stated that he was going to make sure the students are respected. In his campaign pledges he had promised to advocate for students rights.

Voting underway

The race to choose CUSA representatives began today at 6:00 AM today and it is still going on at the pavilion. The exercise which is said to end at 1:00 PM has witnessed a large turn out from the time it started at 6:00. The   various candidates have voted. The Exercise has so far been peaceful. When the CUJC team visited the polling station there were two long ques of people lining to vote. One of the commissioners informed us that half the  voters had voted. The electoral commission had also opted to use transparent boxes. By the time of going to press the ballot boxes were almost full and when we inquired about that they told us they had asked voters to fold the ballot boxes more than twice. Counting of the votes is expected to start at 1PM immediately after voting is closed.

Omulloh Augo has refuted Kirimi's allegations that he he helped. Kirimi had said in the public debate that he had ever helped Augo financially and that he will mention others he had ever helped financially and emotionally in the subsequent debate.In an exclusive interview with www.chikeo.blospot.com Augo termed the allegations as baseless and meant to demean him. He also told us he had written to the electoral commission although the commission was reluctant. Augo told us that he did not need to write to the commisssion as all members were present and even wondered why the commission had not taken action. He said the constitution was explicit on the same.

On the claims that Kirimi leaked him information on how to defend himself when he was accused of incitement Augo said that those were blatant lies as Kirimi was not privy to the situation at that time. He said only Livingstone Ochwando the former director welfare was aware of that because the were living in the same room with the former Chairperson. He said Kirimi only came to know about when the matter reached to the principal.

Candidate earns himself a nickname

Gideon Osamong a candidate for the post of Treasurer has earned himself a nickname after he stated that he will ensure that he contain the price of the most popular commodity-sukuma wiki. Gideon who has become now popurlaly known as Sukuma had said during yesterday's public debate that he will make sure sukuma retails at two shillings. A message going around from his requesting people to vote for him uses the word sukuma. The message partly reads "Plz vote 4 Gideon Akou (sukuma) 4 TREASURER.plz forward to many thanks.

Campaign launch faces hitches

The official CUSA electoral commission campaign launch was yesterday marred by technical hitches and constant power failure. The event which was to have been held in T1 was changed at the last minute without any explanation. As a result Chairperson hopeful James Kirimi's official campaign launch was hurriedly conducted to the ire of his supporters. Kirimi had made a grand and thunderous entry to the school only to be told that that he had only been given 10 minutes to complete his campaign launch.

When the electoral commission campaign launch  commenced candidates were regularly interupted by the deputy Chairperson of the electoral commission Tyrus Otieno because of time. There were frequent power blackout which interrupted the session. The public address system  also interrupted Augo's speech. The final blow came when power went off . In the darkness a fighting match ensued between supporters of the rival camps. Finally Augo had to do with his a half address while Kirimi had to called the day off without addressing the audience.

Electoral commission announces clerk jobs

The CUSA electoral commission has announced the poll clerk jobs. The deadline of the application is 4:00 toady. This is bound to raise eyebrows given that the mode of communication is not effective.
The applicants are required to apply to the dean's office  according to the notice on noticeboards in the school.

Electoral commission spoils Kirimi's day

James Kirimi had his official campaign launch disrupted yesterday after the electoral commission changed its venue for their official campaign launch from T1 to the Pavilion. Kirimi had made a grand entry to the school with a motorcade only to be informed  of  the changes. Although he was not contented with that his team had to hurriedly introduce themselves.

According to Kirimi he had prepared well for the occasion and he said he had been disheartened by the outcome of the events. His rival  had successfully  launched his campaign last Thursday and Kirimi hoped to counter the reception. Sources privy to Kirimi's campaign strategies informed us that a lot of time and efforts to prepare for the day.


Kirimi' s supporters have   expressed their  displeasure with yesterday is happenings. Some are pointing the fingers at the electoral commission for spoiling what they call a grand day for Kirimi.
